Paisley doormat

Paisley doormat. The Department of Eastern Art in the Ashmolean Museum holds a unique collection of early Indian and Islamic textiles. From early historical times India produced fabrics of outstanding quality and beauty, much in demand at home and in other parts of Asia. Indian textiles, therefore, have been a major export article from the subcontinent for several thousand years. Details taken from two of these Indian block printed fabric swatches, which were found in Egypt, make up this pattern of rosettes, dots and stylised plants.
